Super speciality OPDs launched at Lucknow Civil Hospital

Lucknow: Super-speciality outpatient services for neurological, kidney and cardiac ailments have been launched at SPM Civil Hospital, enabling patients in Lucknow and neighbouring districts to access specialist consultations closer to home.
According to the news reports, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak inaugurated the new services along with a stroke unit, neurosurgery ward and neurosurgery operation theatre at the hospital. He said the new facilities would enable patients suffering from serious and complex illnesses to receive timely specialist care within the government healthcare system.

The super-speciality services have been introduced through a collaboration between SPM Civil Hospital and RML Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS). Under the arrangement, specialist doctors from RMLIMS will provide consultations and treatment to patients at Civil Hospital.
The initiative was developed under the leadership of Civil Hospital Director Dr G P Gupta.
Pathak said similar collaborations would be extended to other government hospitals across Uttar Pradesh by linking medical colleges with district hospitals. The objective, he said, is to make specialist healthcare available closer to patients' homes.
According to the deputy chief minister, the move will reduce the need for patients to make repeated trips to tertiary-care institutions such as KGMU, RMLIMS and SGPGI for specialist consultations and treatment. It is also expected to ease the growing patient load at these major centres.
Pathak urged people to make greater use of the free healthcare services available at government hospitals.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Civil Hospital director Dr GP Gupta said this is the first tie-up of a district hospital with a super speciality hospital across the state.
On H1N1, Pathak said health department teams were monitoring the situation, and there was no need for panic. He advised people to follow health protocols, use masks in crowded places and seek medical attention if they develop fever or flu-like symptoms. He said adequate arrangements had been made for testing and medicines across the state, reports TOI.
Pathak also announced that specialist doctors aged up to 70 years would be offered re-employment opportunities in government hospitals to strengthen the availability of experienced medical professionals in the public healthcare system.
The initiative is expected to supplement the existing pool of specialists and improve access to specialised medical services in government facilities.
Among those present at the inauguration were Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Kumar Ghosh, RMLIMS director Dr CM Singh, and CMS Dr Devesh Chandra Pandey, reports TOI.
