Odisha to get medical college and Ayurvedic wellness centre soon
Jharsuguda: The Odisha government will set up a private medical college and an Ayurvedic wellness centre soon. For this purpose, Health Minister Naba Kishore Das visited Jharsuguda to identify the land for the construction of the projects.
On Tuesday, Minister Naba, along with a high-level team of district officials and members of Art of Living visited Balijuri and Malimunda in Jharsuguda to verify the land. Minister Naba was accompanied by Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari. Naba said that it is his dream project and he wanted to see a medical college in Jharsuguda for so long.
With an Ayurvedic wellness centre and a medical college in one city, people will get quality education and health care altogether. The proposal was first approached by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's Art of Living which was later approved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The government has allotted 25-acre of land each for both projects.
Speaking to Odishabytes, the minister said, "The Chief Minister has been stressing health infrastructure in the state. After the proposals of a heart hospital and cancer hospital in the district, Ravi Shankar expressed his willingness to set up a medical college and an Ayurvedic wellness centre. We have come to identify the land for both institutions."
He said the patients can avail of free medical services in the medical college as it would be run by Art of Living, a charitable institution.
Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari said, "We plan convergence of the proposed heart hospital, heart hospital, medical college, and wellness centre in one campus. It will not only benefit the people of Jharsuguda but also the patients of the entire western Odisha."
On the demand of Bargarh people for a medical college, the MP said "The Central government has planned to set up a medical college in each parliamentary constituency. Already medical colleges have been set up in 6 constituencies. The proposal for Bargarh is in the pipeline. When it will be taken up, we will try to have a common campus catering to all health needs of the people."
