State Drug Alert: CDSCO Flags 199 Samples Including Paracetamol, Pantoprazole, Cefixime as Not of Standard Quality
New Delhi: Continuing its nationwide surveillance of drug quality, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has flagged 199 drug, cosmetic and medical device samples as Not of Standard Quality (NSQ), misbranded, spurious, or otherwise non-compliant with prescribed standards in its July 2026 State Drug Alert, based on test reports submitted by State Drug Testing Laboratories across the country.
The alert covers a wide spectrum of pharmaceutical and healthcare products, including antibiotics, antidiabetics, antihypertensives, analgesics, gastrointestinal medicines, cardiovascular drugs, corticosteroids, antiepileptics, vitamin and mineral preparations, injections, oral rehydration salts, dermatological preparations, cough and respiratory formulations, medical devices and cosmetic products.
Several samples failed important quality parameters such as assay, dissolution, disintegration, identification, description, pH, sterility, uniformity of weight, content of active ingredients and compliance with label claims. The list also contains products specifically reported as misbranded and a product declared spurious.
Among the notable medicines flagged in the July alert are Pantoprazole Tablets IP manufactured by Finecure Pharmaceuticals; Methotrexate Tablets IP 7.5 mg manufactured by Macmillon Pharmaceuticals; Calcium and Vitamin D3 Tablets IP manufactured by Cureza Healthcare; Pregabalin Capsules IP 300 mg manufactured by Divine Medicare; Itraconazole 100 mg manufactured by MK Healthcare; Alprazolam Tablets IP 0.5 mg manufactured by Saintlife Pharmaceuticals; Paracetamol Tablets IP 650 mg manufactured by Forgo Pharmaceuticals; and Nifedipine Sustained Release Tablets IP 10 mg manufactured by J.B. Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals.
The alert also includes Dexamethasone Tablets IP 0.5 mg manufactured by Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd., which failed the dissolution test; Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride Tablets IP 250 mg and Paracetamol Tablets IP 650 mg manufactured by Zenith Drugs Ltd., which were reported for dissolution failures; and Paracetamol Tablets IP 650 mg manufactured by Alventa Pharma Ltd., which also failed the dissolution test.
Several antibiotic formulations also feature prominently in the alert. These include Cefixime Dispersible Tablets IP manufactured by Daxin Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., which failed assay requirements, and two batches of Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate Tablets IP, manufactured by Orbit Lifescience Pvt. Ltd. and VADSP Pharmaceuticals, which were reported for failure in dissolution and assay of clavulanic acid.
The July alert further includes several medicines manufactured by major pharmaceutical companies. Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate Tablets IP manufactured by Medreich Ltd. were reported by the Lucknow laboratory for failure of the identification test, while another sample of the same combination manufactured by Alkem Health Sciences, a unit of Alkem Laboratories Ltd., also failed identification requirements. Pantoprazole Gastro-resistant Tablets IP 40 mg manufactured by Aristo Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. similarly failed the identification test.
A sample of Levofloxacin Tablets IP 500 mg manufactured by Lupin Ltd. was reported by the Lucknow laboratory for failure to conform to IP requirements in the identification test. The list also includes Glimepiride Tablets IP manufactured by Sanofi India Ltd., which failed the dissolution test.
Among other notable findings, Diclofenac Sodium and Paracetamol Tablets IP manufactured by Zydus Healthcare Ltd. failed description and dissolution requirements, while several antimicrobial combinations, including Cefpodoxime Proxetil-Clavulanic Acid, Cefixime-Azithromycin, Cefixime-Ofloxacin and Amoxycillin-Potassium Clavulanate combinations, were reported for negative identification tests.
The alert also lists Aceclofenac 100 mg, Serratiopeptidase 15 mg and Paracetamol 325 mg Tablets manufactured by Ipca Laboratories Ltd., for which the identity tests for Aceclofenac and Paracetamol were reported negative.
The list also includes Oxytocin Injection IP 5 IU/ml manufactured by Jackson Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., which failed the identification test for Oxytocin. Betamethasone Valerate and Neomycin Skin Cream manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd. was reported as not conforming to the claim with respect to the assay of Neomycin Sulphate.
Pantoprazole Gastro-resistant and Domperidone Prolonged-release Capsules IP manufactured by Alkem Health Science were reported for failure in assay of Pantoprazole and uniformity of weight, while Pantoprazole Gastro-resistant Tablets IP manufactured by Skymap Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. failed dissolution.
The July 2026 State Drug Alert reflects quality-control findings reported by laboratories across multiple jurisdictions, including Punjab, Rajasthan, Odisha, Assam, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh, among others.
