Kanpur Horror: Pharma Trader Found Murdered Inside Flat, Throat Slit
Kanpur: A 63-year-old wholesale medicine trader was allegedly murdered inside his flat at a residential apartment complex in Kanpur's Kalyanpur area on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Police suspect that he was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon, and two persons have been detained for questioning in connection with the case.
Vineet Minocha, a resident of C-104 on the first floor of Ratan Orbit Apartment in Indira Nagar, was found in a pool of blood at around 3 am on Sunday after his son, daughter-in-law and six-year-old grandson returned home from a party. As per police his throat had been slit and he had suffered multiple injuries. Blood was also found scattered inside the room, including on the bedsheet.
Police suspect that the murder took place between 10:30 pm on Saturday and 3 am on Sunday. When the family returned to the apartment, they reportedly found the main door open and Minocha’s body inside. Kalyanpur police reached the spot and called a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, which examined the crime scene and collected evidence.
Minocha was a wholesale medicine distributor and operated Pharma Traders on Birhana Road along with his son, Subrat. His wife, Punita, a marriage counsellor, had reportedly travelled to Ghaziabad about a week earlier. Their daughter Subhani and son-in-law, both engineers, reside in Gurugram.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the apartment complex and have seized the building’s digital video recorder (DVR) and entry register to establish the movements of people around the suspected time of the murder. CCTV footage reportedly showed two persons entering the flat, after which two suspects were detained for questioning.
Relatives told investigators that they were not aware of any personal enmity involving Minocha. Police are therefore also examining whether the victim knew the alleged assailants and may have opened the door for someone familiar. Neighbours reportedly did not hear anything unusual around the time of the suspected murder.
Investigators found signs of a struggle inside the flat, while other belongings appeared to have remained undisturbed. These details are being examined along with the forensic evidence and CCTV footage to determine what happened inside the residence.
Additional DCP (West) Rajesh Kumar Pandey said legal proceedings were being initiated on the basis of the family’s complaint. ACP Kalyanpur Dilip Singh said a case had been registered on the complaint filed by Minocha’s son, Subrat, and that the involvement of the two detained persons was being verified, reports The Hindustan Times.
Police are continuing the investigation to determine the motive behind the murder, identify the assailants and establish whether Minocha knew the people who entered his flat.
