NTRUHS to introduce India's first AI powered CBME programme
Andhra Pradesh: Taking a major step towards modernising medical education in Andhra Pradesh, NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) is all set to launch India's first Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) system.
The Vice-Chancellor of NTRUHS, Dr P. Chandrasekhar, made this announcement recently during a WebEx meeting held with the principals, vice-principals, professors, and students of 38 medical colleges across the state. Addressing the meeting, Dr Chandrasekhar stated that this initiative would provide medical students with world-class, technology-enabled learning infrastructure.
According to The Hans India news report, he stated that the university is collaborating with EdMedAI, developed by Dr Chandrasekhar Bondhugula, a US-based medical professional with over 25 years of experience, to implement structured competency tracking, continuous assessment, and digital learning modules. These steps are in line with the competency-based medical education framework mandated by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The NMC has also emphasised the adoption of AI-driven and technology-enabled learning methods to improve the quality and effectiveness of medical training in India. The AI-powered application was designed to train doctors who are prepared for the future and capable of meeting global healthcare standards.
Additionally, Dr Chandrasekhar Bondhugula, creator of EdMedAI and Chairman of the Graduate Medical Education Committee in the United States, stated during the webinar that he is committed to contributing to India's medical education system.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Saurabh Gaur, said that the state government is keen to promote artificial intelligence in healthcare and education. He stated that AI-based services can significantly improve knowledge acquisition and accuracy in medical training, and added that the government will soon formulate comprehensive policies and guidelines in this regard.
