Ragging: 3 MBBS students expelled, suspended at Guwahati medical college

Assam: Three MBBS students at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) have been expelled over the past two days on charges of allegedly ragging, harassing, and assaulting junior and fellow students.
Additionally, one of the students was also accused of harassing a female batchmate, despite having already received a warning from the police.
Therefore, sources at GMCH informed TOI that this action was taken following complaints filed by the medicos with the National Medical Commission (NMC), after which the Commission directed the college to take necessary steps.
Meanwhile, according to office orders issued by the GMC Principal and Chief Superintendent Prof. (Dr.) AC Baishya, based on the recommendations of the Anti-Ragging Task Force and the minutes of the meeting held on March 11, a second-year MBBS student residing in Hostel has been expelled from the college for a period of six months and permanently debarred from residing in the hostel, with immediate effect. He was accused of physically assaulting juniors within the hostel premises on February 14.
An MBBS Phase III, Part I student from the same hostel has been suspended from the college for three months and permanently expelled from the hostel with immediate effect. The order states that on this very day last month, he was found ragging his juniors, according to TOI.
In addition, a third student, who was enrolled in Phase III, Part II of the MBBS program, was penalised for allegedly persistently harassing a female classmate and for repeating the misconduct even after receiving a prior warning from the police. Under this order, he was suspended from classes for six months and was also barred from residing in the hostel for the remainder of his tenure at GMCH.
College sources stated that following a warning from the NMC, the Anti-Ragging Committee conducted a detailed inspection of both the boys' and girls' hostels. Sources further revealed that for some time now, several junior students had been falling victim to ragging.
