Bhagalpur: MBBS student dies after car allegedly driven by intoxicated PG medico hits scooter

Bhagalpur: A few days after a speeding car allegedly driven by an intoxicated postgraduate (PG) medical student reportedly hit an MBBS student in Bhagalpur, the injured student died during treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
Following his death, students of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) demanded the rustication of the accused PG student, who has been arrested and sent to jail.

According to Prabhat Khabar media report, the deceased was a student of the 2023 MBBS batch at JLNMCH. The accident took place near Tilka Manjhi Chowk at around 1 am on Thursday when he was travelling towards the medical college on his scooter. A speeding car coming from the opposite direction hit his scooter, throwing him onto the road. He suffered serious injuries to his head and chest.
After the collision, he allegedly moved the injured MBBS student to the roadside and tried to flee in his car. However, a team from Dial 112 reached the spot and caught him. Another PG student was also travelling in the car but reportedly left the scene.
Meanwhile, JLNMCH Principal Dr Sandeep Lal and Hospital Superintendent Dr H.P. Dubey also reached the hospital around 2 am. After initial treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the student was shifted to PMCH in an ambulance. However, he died during treatment on Friday.
The student's death reportedly led to his classmates meeting Principal Dr Sandeep Lal on Friday evening and demanding that the accused PG student be rusticated from the medical college.
Responding to their demand, the Principal said four people were travelling in the car and that police had already registered a case. He added that the police would investigate the incident and take necessary action.
Later, a medical examination of the accused PG student confirmed 40 per cent alcohol in his body. Traffic Police Station SHO Bhupendra Kumar said he had arrested him and sent him to jail.
