No foul play in Patna NEET aspirant's death case: Police

Bihar: In a tragic incident, a NEET aspirant recently died while undergoing treatment at a local hospital after she was found unconscious in her hostel room. Following this, her parents arrived at the Chitragupta Nagar police station area on Sunday evening and staged a protest at Kargil Chowk in Bihar. They alleged that their daughter had been sexually assaulted.
However, police has said the death may have been caused by an overdose of sleeping pills. According to a TOI media news report, Patna SP (East) Parichay Kumar stated that a gynaecologist who examined the girl found no evidence of sexual assault, and her statement was recorded under the e-evidence system during her treatment.
“Urine analysis detected sleeping pills in her body, and similar pills were recovered from her room. Investigators are probing their source and usage. CCTV footage from the hostel and surrounding areas showed no signs of foul play, and the hard drive has been seized for forensic examination,” he said.
The officer also stated that a search of her cell phone revealed searches related to poison, including information about the effects and lethality of an overdose of sleeping pills. Kumar further informed on Monday that a panel of doctors conducted a post-mortem examination, and the viscera have been preserved for chemical and toxicological analysis, reports TOI.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that a 18-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide by consuming a large quantity of sleeping pills and passed away after being in a coma for nearly a week.
She had been undergoing treatment since January 6.
The case came to light after the deceased student's parents alleged that she had been assaulted and sexually abused. However, the police said that medical examinations and CCTV footage from the hostel have not supported these claims.
