Delhi: Following the letter to the Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan by KJ Alphons, former tourism minister and a BJP MP, regarding the issue of medical admission, AIIMS Delhi has now agreed to admit NEET topper Farheen KS who was previously denied admission by the institute.

She secured an all India NEET rank of 66 this year; however, she was allegedly denied admission by the AIIMS authorities over some technical ground after which she approached former tourism minister and BJP MP KJ Alphons and sought help. Following the minister's intervention, the medical aspirant has now finally secured admission in AIIMS and the authorities also accepted their mistake.

Previously, the Medical Dialogues team reported that after receiving Farheen's request, the BJP MP wrote a letter to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan highlighting the plight of the students who topped the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). Mr. Alphon informed the minister that Farheen, who belongs from an economically weaker background secured a NEET rank of 66, and based on her ranking, she applied for admission in AIIMS on November 5. She got an allotment letter on November 6 to appear for counselling on November 11.
The prospectus didn't mention to submit her non-creamy layer OBC certificate on November 5. It said that such a certificate should be produced during seat allocation. She produced all the certificates laid down in the prospectus on the date of counselling before the concerned officials.
However, the officials told her that she should have submitted her OBC non-creamy layer certificate by November 5 and since she didn't do that her admission was canceled. Alphons alleged in his letter that after denying her admission, AIIMS officials put undue pressure on Farheen to write a letter to the director of the institute and accept a false claim that her OBC certificate was invalid and that she should be considered for the second round of counselling.
According to the Outlook, after receiving the letter, the Union Health Minister immediately held a meeting with AIIMS authorities and they admitted to their mistakes there. Alphons KJ has expressed his gratitude over the prompt action of the health minister and posted on his social media account stating that " Thank you so much @drharshvardhan for your intervention in getting the MBBS admission of Farheen restored after AIIMS Delhi had rejected it on irrational grounds."

MP Alphon told Outlook that "It is unfortunate that a minister had to intervene for a rank holder who should have got admission through the laid down process." He also stated that this case is just an instance and other students might have also faced similar problems. He further added "I am told that AIIMS Delhi has denied admission to some other candidates as well on illegal grounds. I demand an appellate authority as a redressal mechanism in a prestigious institute like AIIMS so that students can raise their concerns and have their issues resolved."
