After a search, the rescue team recovered his body from the pond. The body was taken to a nearby hospital.
Asianet News has reported that the body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination. The incident has left his family, friends, and fellow students shocked.
Further investigation is expected to be carried out by the authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a final-year MBBS student of the Kolkata Medical College and Hospital died after reportedly drowning in the Hooghly River while bathing at Babughat. In another incident, two junior resident doctors of the state-run MGM Medical College and Hospital drowned to death in the prohibited danger zone of Dimna lake in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district.
