Uttarakhand: In an unfortunate incident, a 20-year-old aspirant from Uttarakhand committed suicide in Kota, Rajasthan, a day before the NEET 2026 examination.
Police officials reached the spot soon after receiving the alert and took custody of the body, which has been sent for post-mortem examination. No suicide note has been recovered so far. Investigators are probing all possible angles, including exam-related stress and other personal factors.
This tragic incident came to light at a time when thousands of candidates were preparing for the medical entrance examination scheduled for May 3rd.
The student has been identified as an aspirant from Almora. He had been preparing for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) at a coaching institute in Kota for the past two years.
On Saturday morning, he jumped from the roof of his hostel, located in the Kunhari area. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead, reports IANS.
The police were immediately informed around 7 am following the incident. Upon reaching the scene, the police sent the body for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the deceased's family was also informed.
During the investigation, no suicide note was recovered, police stated. However, investigators are examining stress related to examinations, as well as other possible factors of death.
As Kota grapples with yet another student death, this incident highlights the recurring concerns regarding mental health and stress management among medical aspirants; meanwhile, authorities are emphasising adherence to examination-related regulations to ensure a smooth process.

Medical Dialogues recently reported that on Saturday at 6 am, a bulldozer was deployed in Madhya Pradesh's Manas Bhawan Colony, in which a NEET aspirant's home also got demolished. The NEET aspirant has been identified as a 17-year-old who was preparing for the NEET UG 2026 examination, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday.
She watched helplessly as the incident unfolded, seeing her study materials, anatomy diagrams, pharmacology notes, and mock test papers, buried beneath the rubble of 27 demolished houses. This event shattered her dreams of becoming a doctor.
