Distressed over failing 2 subjects, 26 year old MS medico allegedly commits suicide
Chennai: In an unfortunate incident, a 26-year-old postgraduate medical student pursuing a Masters in Surgery course at a private medical college near Kelambakkam allegedly committed suicide.
The doctor, who was in the final year of his postgraduate studies, was reportedly distressed after learning that he had failed in two subjects in his final-year examinations.
As per Deccan Chronicle media report, his friends had tried to console him and asked him not to lose hope.
However, the medico on Friday morning allegedly went to the balcony of the apartment and died by suicide.
The results of the final-year postgraduate examination were released on Thursday night, following which he was reportedly distressed after finding that he had not cleared two subjects.
The deceased was a native of Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh. He had completed his MBBS and was pursuing his MS at a private medical college near Kelambakkam. He was staying with fellow students in a rented apartment in a nearby residential complex.
After being informed by security personnel at the apartment complex, police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem examination to Chengalpattu Government Medical College Hospital.
Kelambakkam police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a 20-year-old first-year medical student of a private medical college in the Rajbandh area of West Bengal's Durgapur was found dead by hanging in his hostel room. The student was preparing for his first-year examinations, which are scheduled to begin in two days. Police are now investigating whether examination-related stress or any other issue may have contributed to his death.
