NEET impersonation case: TN CB-CID sleuths arrest agent who took Rs 20 lakh from MMC student

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu CB-CID sleuths recently arrested an agent from Bengaluru in connection to the case linked to a Madras Medical College (MMC) student getting admission through impersonation in NEET during the academic year 2018-19.

The agent has been identified as Sri Harsh. The third accused of the case, he was nabbed in Bengaluru and remanded in judicial custody in Chennai. As per a recent media report, the man is believed to be the agent of the medical student who allegedly cheated in the NEET examination and secured admission in MMC in the academic year 2018-2019.

The student and his father were arrested in February 2020 under charges of impersonation. The police during the investigation came to know that the medical student allegedly paid a hefty amount of Rs 20 lakh to their agent who was absconding until this Monday.

The medical student heralding from Hosur took admission in MMC in 2018 after securing a commendable score. He wrote his NEET exam in Hindi that year from an exam centre in Bihar, police noted.

However, the medical college administration started suspecting impersonation and malpractice on part of the medico after it received an e-mail in November 2019 which pointed out that the medico had no knowledge of Hindi language as he never studied Hindi in school but surprisingly had written the NEET exam in Hindi, reports DT Next.

The college administration started investigating his educational background. When he learnt that MMC investigation was underway, he reportedly escaped.

The CB-CID, Theni has made 17 arrests including students, parents and agents in connection with the NEET impersonation scam in 2019 medical admissions. Police are still searching for the impersonators, who allegedly took the exam in place of the real students, reports the daily.
