Tamil Nadu: Man impersonating as doctor steals Rs 45.91 lakh from woman , arrested
Chennai: A man posing as a medical practitioner was arrested on Monday for stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh after he put a woman on drip who had come as a patient to receive treatment from his rented clinic in Avadi. The incident came to the light on February 2 The 39 year old accused had been identified as a resident of Tamil Nadu's Thiruvottiyur, reports the Times of India.

According to the police, a resident of MES Road at Muthapudupet had put out an advertisement at an online market place to rent out a space for setting up a clinic in the premises. The accused had met with the owner of the premises claiming to have completed his MBBS and MD, asking to set up a clinic in the premises. The owner of the space rented the area believing him to be a genuine doctor who wanted to establish a clinic.
Subsequently, the accused began providing treatment to the patients from a room. The theft took place when a patient approached the clinic for a medical check-up. The fraudster told her that she needed to be put on a drip as she was weak.
The accused told the woman to put her gold chain on the forehead for easier check-up, following which she woke up after half an hour and found the door of the room closed. The accused had also fled from the spot with her gold chain which was worth Rs 2 lakh, reports the Times of India.
When the woman raised an alarm, the owner of the house arrived at the spot, and tried calling the accused, who was non-responsive. Following that, a police complaint was filed against the fraudster by the owner and the patient.
The police eventually arrested the doctor, and their investigation revealed that the accused used to work as an assistant with many doctors at Aminjikarai and Thiruninravur. He was reportedly addicted to alcohol, and wanted to earn easy money.
A police official said, "This is his first offence, no previous cases pending against him." He had been remanded in police custody.
