Gadag: The demand for establishing an Ayurveda research centre in Kappatagudda, in Gadag district, is steadily increasing. The region is widely recognized for its rich biodiversity and abundance of medicinal plants, making it a valuable natural resource for traditional medicine.

Kappatagudda is a biodiversity-rich wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka, which has been recognized by Environmentalists, researchers, and local leaders for its immense ecological and medicinal importance, reports Prajavani. The area is known to host a wide range of rare, valuable, and therapeutically significant herbs that are extensively used in Ayurveda.

Many of these plant species are not only important for traditional healing practices but also hold great potential for modern scientific research. However, despite this richness, the absence of a dedicated Ayurveda research facility has resulted in inadequate documentation, limited conservation efforts, and a lack of systematic scientific study of these valuable resources.

With the growing global shift toward herbal medicine and natural healing systems, experts strongly believe that establishing an ayurvedic research centre in Kappatagudda would be both timely and beneficial. Such a centre would play a crucial role in preserving traditional knowledge that has been passed down through generations, while also enabling scientific validation and standardization of Ayurvedic practices.

It would ensure the sustainable use and management of medicinal plants, preventing overexploitation and ecological damage. Additionally, the centre could serve as an academic and research hub, providing training, education, and research opportunities for students, scholars, and professionals in the field of Ayurveda and allied sciences.

In response to these potential benefits, repeated appeals have been made to the government to take concrete and timely action. Supporters strongly argue that establishing such a facility would not only help conserve the region’s biodiversity but also contribute to strengthening India’s traditional healthcare systems in a sustainable and meaningful way.
