Amid Allegations of Irregularities in Exams, VC of MP Medical varsity Resigns

The Resignation of Dr. T N Dubey comes at a time when the University is already burdened with a Government panel probe against allegations of irregularities and delay in conducting exams, blacklisting of an IT firm and a High Court hearing.

Dr. Dubey held the chair of VC back in January 2020. However, ever since his appointment, controversies were never-ending as there were allegations in exam results that resulted in an FIR against the IT firm handling the matter. Apart from this, the VC was also alleged to have been irregular at the University and it was being reported that he had been spending most of his time in Bhopal, reports TOI.

Besides, there were complaints related to the delays in the examination process. As per the latest media report by the Indian Express, the examinations of around 3500 students at the University are stuck as a result of the inquiry into working of the IT firm, which was accused of irregularities in the examination process.

An FIR was lodged against the firm on the basis of a complaint by Agra Medical University. The firm, responsible for conducting exams and preparing marksheets of students, was accused of severe lapses. In fact, the allegations included passing failed students even though they hadn't attended the exams at all, reports the Times of India.

However, when based on inquiry by a government panel, the University blacklisted the firm, it approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the HC in an interim relief, lifted the blacklisting. The order of the Government was in this way put on hold until the next date of hearing, i.e. August 16.

In the midst of it all, the VC of the University submitted his resignation on Saturday. He has cited personal reasons for such a step and has explained that he resigned as he "wasn't able to give time to his patients despite being a doctor," reports TOI.

"I am a neurosurgeon and was not able to give time to my patients due to these responsibilities. Being a doctor, my first priority are my patients. It is for these personal reasons that I resigned. Besides, I had to travel between Bhopal and Jabalpur on a regular basis," he added.

However, Indian Express reports that senior officials have claimed that the VC stepped down after Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang set up an inquiry panel to probe the alleged irregularities and had sent Medical Education Commissioner Nishant Warvade to the university to look into the matters.

When the daily asked the former VC if his decision had to do anything to do with the inquiry, he said, "There is nothing beyond the fact that I wanted to be closer to my family. Everything else is baseless."

Meanwhile, Medical Education Commissioner Warvade told the daily on Saturday, "The inquiry committee was sent some queries but a reply is yet to be received. However, it would be best explained by the vice-chancellor, who is dealing with the issue."
