Doctor, Pharmacist transferred amid caste abuse probe at Kakkanad Jail

Kochi: The probe into the alleged caste-based insult of a pharmacist by a doctor at the Kakkanad District Jail is nearing completion, with the final report expected to be submitted to the concerned court within two months, Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Baby P V informed the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).
The incident came to light after a pharmacist filed a complaint alleging that the doctor, attached to the district jail dispensary, allegedly insulted her with a caste-based slur and issued threats. The pharmacist, who belongs to a backward community, reported the incident to the Infopark Police, prompting the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under Crime No. 82/2025.

Justice Thomas, in his official statement, noted that no further action from the SHRC is required at this point, as the government has already initiated appropriate departmental proceedings.
