Dr Sharanabasappa S Karbhari named Part-Time Member of National Medical Commission
Bengaluru: Dr. Sharanabasappa S. Karbhari, a distinguished member of the Karnataka Medical Council, has been appointed as a part-time member of the National Medical Commission (NMC) by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. His inclusion in the apex medical regulatory body reflects his longstanding dedication to medical education, clinical expertise, and institutional leadership.
Currently 56 years old, Dr. Karbhari serves as the Professor and Head of the Department of General Surgery at M.R. Medical College, Gulbarga. He is also a recognised postgraduate guide under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, mentoring aspiring surgeons in the state.
Dr. Karbhari completed his MBBS in 1991 and later obtained an MS in General Surgery in 1995, both from M.R. Medical College under Gulbarga University. Between 1996 and 1998, he underwent advanced training in urology at the prestigious Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, further enriching his clinical acumen.
Talking about the recent problems that the medical sector is facing, he told Medical Dialogues, “I think more than anything, the most dangerous threat to healthcare is AI now. Not only do people rely on the judgment of AIs regarding their diseases instead of consulting medical professionals properly, but sometimes medical students also consult them and use them unethically. We need to make people aware of the dangers of relying solely on AIs when it comes to health.”
