Grenade found at Manipur Doctor’s Residence, Probe On

Imphal: Just Weeks after a hand grenade was discovered concealed in a bag at the residence of the Director-CEO of KARKINOS, a similar incident unfolded in Manipur's  Imphal West district on Wednesday morning. This time the explosive device was found at the residence of a doctor at Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a shocking incident, a hand grenade concealed in a bag was found at the residence of the Director-CEO of KARKINOS Manipur Cancer Institute & Research Centre in Chingmeirong Maning Leikai on Friday. The Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI), Manipur Chapter, and Manipur Branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) have condemned the incident and called for swift action against the miscreants. As per the police report, the grenade was discovered inside a bag hanging on the gate of the residence. The bag also contained a letter with the message, “KCP PWG last warning,” inscribed on it.

As per the recent media report by Northeast Now, the explosive device, concealed in a bag, was found at the front gate of Dr. Leishangthem Sachindra’s residence. The Singjamei police were immediately alerted.

The Manipur Police bomb disposal squad was dispatched to the scene and safely retrieved the 36-hand grenade around 8:00 AM, ensuring there were no casualties or further threats. Authorities have registered a case and are currently investigating the motive behind this alarming incident. At this stage, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the act.

The incident has sparked concern about the rising use of explosives in the region.

The local Meira Paibis have strongly condemned the incident, calling for immediate action against those responsible. They have also appealed to the perpetrators to desist from issuing such threats in the future.
