New Delhi: In a significant recruitment, Dr Raghav Langer, a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Jammu and Kashmir has been appointed as the Secretary of the National Medical Commission at the Joint Secretary (JS) level under the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
According to the official order, his tenure will last until October 3, 2025, or until further orders, whichever comes first. This appointment is part of his combined seven-year central deputation period, which includes his previous postings in the central government.
An alumnus of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Dr. Langer belongs to the 2009 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). He is among 35 IAS officers, elevated to the rank of joint secretary or joint secretary equivalent level with pay at Level 14 of the pay matrix.

The NMC is the country’s apex regulatory body for medical education, professionals, institutes, and research. Established in 2020, it replaced the Medical Council of India (MCI) through an Act of Parliament. The commission is tasked with registering medical colleges and professionals, as well as assessing and grading both private and government medical institutions to ensure quality healthcare standards.
