New Delhi: In a joint investigation, the Mansarovar police and the Gurgaon health department arrested a doctor including two others for allegedly conducting prenatal sex determination at a house in Delhi.

The accused were taken into custody after a raid was conducted by the team at a house in Delhi where the health department discovered that the doctor was part of a gang.

The incident came to light on Tuesday after a woman approached the health department providing intel about the alleged illegal practice in the capital.

Following this, the team conducted a raid on the house in East Ram Nagar and seized a portable ultrasound machine discovered on the premises. Later the trio was arrested.

The racket is reported to be an interstate which concludes that the police along with the health department have to investigate and conduct searches in other states as well.

“It was an inter-state sex determination racket. We will continue conducting raids to curb such practices,” the CMO said.

According to the health department, the gang would charge around Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 for prenatal sex determination.

In order to catch the accused red-handed, the health department created a plan and sent the woman who gave intel to the department to the gang. When the woman approached them, the gang asked her for money. The team hiding near the house immediately went to the spot and detained them.

Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer of Gurgaon informed TOI, “She was asked to pay Rs 60,000 for the process. She informed the health department. The team followed her till Delhi and cops were alerted there."

A case has been registered against the accused under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994; Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 in Gurgaon.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about a similar incident where the Haryana Health Department arrested three people, including a doctor in connection with the case.
