Vijayawada: Taking action against two doctors involved in a three-year-old alleged medical negligence case, the Andhra Pradesh Health Department has ordered a detailed inquiry against the duo, accused of operating on a patient at a private hospital in Jangareddygudem during duty hours despite being government employees. As a result, the patient died a few days later.

The two government doctors include a civil surgeon specialist and a civil assistant surgeon (Anaesthesia). Both were working at a government hospital in Jangareddygudem at that time.

The inquiry was confirmed by the Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Y. Satya Kumar Yadav, who stated that appropriate disciplinary action against the doctors involved would be taken if found guilty.

According to The Hindu report, the incident took place in 2022 when the duo performed a surgery on a patient at a private hospital in Jangareddygudem, during their duty hours. This resulted in gross violation of conduct of rules when they were supposed to discharge their duties at the government hospital, but instead went to the private hospital to perform the surgery.

A few days after the surgery, the patient died, and subsequently, the family members of the deceased filed a complaint against the duo, accusing them of causing the patient’s death owing to negligence.

Taking serious note of the incident, Yadav directed the officials to conduct an inquiry and initiate appropriate disciplinary action against the doctors.

However, the doctors presented a different version of their story. In a written explanation regarding the incident, the doctors said that they performed the surgery at the private hospital during office hours on humanitarian grounds and that there was no negligence on their part, and they appealed for pardon.

Medical Dialogues recently reported that a five-month pregnant woman who had conceived twins through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) tragically lost her babies after a nurse allegedly performed a C-section based on instructions received via phone call from a senior gynaecologist who was not present at the private hospital.
