Rs 30,070 Monthly Stipend for MBBS Interns of Central Govt Institutes, AIIMS implements Order

New Delhi: The monthly stipend for the MBBS interns belonging to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi has now increased and they will now get Rs 30070 per month w.e.f. 01/01/2022.

As per the Office Memorandum issued by the institute on 5th September 2023, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has ordered that the MBBS Interns of the Central Government Institutes will now get Rs 30070 monthly stipend and the same order has now been implemented at AIIMS on 16/08/2023.

The issue concerning the incremental increase in the stipend of MBBS Interns was raised to the AIIMS Institute authorities by the President of the Resident Doctors Association (RDA), Dr. Vinay Kumar.

Referring to this, AIIMS mentioned in the OM dated 05/09/2023, "With reference to letter No.30/RDA/2023-24 dated 24th August. 2023, Dr. Vinay Kumar, President, Resident Doctors Association is informed that his request on the above cited subject has been examined by the Competent Authority in the light of the minutes of the meeting of the Empowered Committee held on 18th July, 2023 regarding enhancement of stipend paid to MBBS and BDS Interns of the Central Government Institutions and it has been found that as per Ministry of Health & Family Welfare orders, the MBBS Interns will get Rs.30070/- Per month we-f. 01/01/2022 and the same has been implemented at AIIMS, New Delhi vide office memorandum No.F. 8-S/99(2023)-Acad. II(Pt. File) dated 16/08/2023."

Addressing the demand concerning the further increase of Stipend, the OM issued by the institute further mentioned, "lt is further informed that as per Ministries order Para-8, it was agreed that the decisions of para-7 of Empowered Committee may be referred to the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance for concurrence, and they have not given any clear cut directions/instructions to increase the Stipend of Interns who are engaged w.e.f. 01/01/2023."

Sharing the copy of the Office Memorandum on X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Vinay Kumar mentioned, "After receiving multiple calls from #interns of many institutions, I m sharing this order with all of you I appeal RDAs & interns all over #India to unite and demand for same order in your states. I assure #Unity can bring you this type of result."


Last year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced its decision to increase the stipend of intern doctors in medical and dental colleges and hospitals of central universities from Rs 23,500 to Rs 26,300 per month.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that this decision was taken by UGC in accordance with an order of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which had increased the stipend of MBBS interns of Central Government Institutions and hospitals previously.

Back in 2021, the Union Health Ministry increased the stipend of MBBS Interns of Central Government institutes and hospitals to Rs 26,300 per month. Earlier medical interns at these institutes were receiving a stipend of Rs 23,500 per month.
