Nashik Civil Hospital doctor arrested in Ayurveda practitioner's suicide case
Nashik: A woman doctor working at Nashik Civil Hospital has been arrested in connection with the alleged suicide of a private Ayurveda practitioner, whose husband, a doctor at the same hospital, was arrested earlier in the case.
According to the news reports, the deceased, a 40-year-old woman, was found hanging inside her apartment on March 6. Two days later, her sister lodged a complaint with the police alleging that mental torture by the woman's husband had forced her to take the extreme step.

Based on the complaint, Gangapur police registered a case against the husband on March 8 under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to abetment of suicide.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a doctor working at the Nashik Civil Hospital has been booked for allegedly abetting the suicide of his wife, an Ayurveda practitioner, following a complaint filed by the deceased’s sister. The police have registered a case, but no arrest has been made so far.
Following the registration of the case, he sought anticipatory bail from the Nashik district court. However, his application was rejected. He subsequently approached the Bombay High Court, which granted him interim relief until the final hearing on September 9.
However, the court rejected his anticipatory bail plea after the Additional Public Prosecutor and the complainant's counsel raised the possibility that the woman's death may not have been a suicide but a murder. They submitted that custodial interrogation was required in the case.
Speaking to TOI, a police officer said, “The accused moved the Supreme Court, but his bail plea was rejected there as well. Subsequently, he was arrested by Nashik police on Friday. While he continues to remain in custody, a lady doctor from the civil hospital was also arrested.”
Meanwhile, police said her name had emerged during the investigation, while the deceased’s sister had alleged in her complaint that the accused had been spending considerable time with the woman doctor over the past two years.
Senior Inspector Suresh Avhad said the woman doctor was arrested in view of the suspicions raised against her in connection with the death. She was produced before a court, which remanded her to police custody.
