Jaipur: A city-based doctor along with his accomplice was recently arrested in connection with illegal sex determination racket busted by the state Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) cell on Friday.

The cell organized a decoy operation to nab the culprits in action after securing some information regarding the duo allegedly being involved in illegal sex determination tests.

The team has secured a sonography machine used for conducting the illegal sex determination from the diagnostic centre where the illegal activity was being carried out.

Naresh Thakral, National Health Mission (NHM) director stated that they received certain information stating that the doctor was involved in sex determination at Superior Diagnostic Centre in Adarsh Nagar. After receiving the information, the PCPNDT cell verified it and arranged a decoy patient. The decoy pregnant woman visited the diagnostic centre as suggested by the doctor. The accused doctor allegedly demanded Rs 35000 from the women through his middleman for the sex determination of the unborn child.
One of the officials told Times of India, "After he clearly told the woman about the sex of the foetus our team arrested the two accused from the spot and recovered the amount. We have also seized the sonography machine used to conduct sex determination and the record found on the spot. The investigation is on."
Violating the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971, is a grave crime. Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported a Gurugram based doctor along with four of his accomplices had been arrested by the Najafgarh police under the charges of conducting illegal sex determination. The Health Department officials conducted a raid on the clinic after receiving a tip-off about a group being involved in illegal sex determination. Officials sent a decoy pregnant patient who confirmed that the accused doctor charged 50000 for determining and revealing the sex of her baby.
