Udaipur: A government doctor, in charge of Badgaon Satellite Hospital in Udaipur, has been removed from his post and placed under an Awaiting Posting Order (APO) by the Rajasthan government on the grounds of making reels during duty hours.

Dr Ashok Sharma, known for his friendly nature, constant availability, and strong connection with patients, is also a popular social media figure with over 3.10 lakh Instagram followers. He frequently posted health-related posts and reels for awareness.

According to officials, the action was taken after the health department received several complaints against him, including allegations that he created Instagram reels during duty hours, failed to take action against an illegal medical store near the hospital, and had longstanding complaints of arriving late and showing negligence during duty.

After issuing his removal, the government asked him to report to the Jaipur headquarters.

Soon after getting the APO notice, Dr Sharma posted two emotional videos on his social media. In the first one, he said he did not understand what mistake he had made that led to his removal. In another video shot at the hospital, he was treating patients and said, "Some patients were still waiting, so I came. My order has come. I’ll be here till Monday - get your treatment done."

His sudden removal left villagers emotional. Videos from the hospital showed several villagers crying, and even Dr Sharma broke down while meeting patients.

Locals described him as one of the few government doctors who is consistently available, approachable and deeply committed to rural healthcare. They were emotional as they bid farewell to the doctor. The villagers alleged that a doctor like him is rare.

Residents told Free Press Journal, "Such dedicated doctors are extremely rare in the government system."

Another villager emotionally said, "People don’t cry this much even when someone dies, but today they’re crying for their doctor."
