Amethi: A 40-year-old doctor was brutally murdered after smashing his head with an iron rod and later, dumping his partially charred body in a ditch in the forest area of Amethi.

Superintendent of police, Amethi, Dinesh Singh has arrested two accused, Ashish Dubey and Santosh after phone surveillance, who confessed to the crime later. The accused had nursed a grudge against the doctor and decided to plot his murder.

According to a recent media report, the doctor has been identified as an owner of a private nursing home, whose half-burnt body was found Saturday night in the Maraucha forest area, three days after he went missing.

Station House Officer Arun Kumar Dubey told PTI that the medical practitioner had gone missing on February 11, and his motorcycle and mobile phone were found near the Sambhal canal under the Jagdishpur police station limits on Saturday. On February 12, the doctor's father, Gangaram, had lodged a missing complaint.

On probing, Dubey's call history showed he was with the doctor, just hours before the murder. When detained, Dubey confessed to the crime.

The accused built intentions to kill the medical practitioner as the doctor, who also ran a chit fund company, would scribble each member's name on a chit and put it in a box for a lucky draw. A chit would be picked and whoever's name came up would bag the prize money. Most members of the group received prizes, barring Dubey.

Resultantly, Dubey invited the doctor to a party at his house and also called his friend Santosh Singh. Thereafter, "the doctor was offered drinks laced with sedatives and after he lost consciousness, Dubey and his aide smashed his head with an iron rod and torched his body. To conceal the crime, they dumped the body in a ditch and planted a tree over it," SHO Jamon, Sanjay Kumar told TOI.
