Man arrested for allegedly abducting 5 year old girl from Ganjam Hospital
Ganjam: A five-year-old differently-abled girl was allegedly abducted from the premises of Chhatrapur Sub-Divisional Hospital in Odisha’s Ganjam district. She was rescued within hours after villagers spotted her, while police arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred on Sunday when the girl had accompanied her grandmother to the hospital. According to police, the accused, identified as a resident of Rajpur village, allegedly approached the child and offered her biscuits and a soft drink. He reportedly gained her confidence and took her away while her grandmother was occupied looking for a doctor.

When the grandmother returned and could not find the girl, she alerted the police. The Chhatrapur police subsequently examined CCTV footage from the hospital premises, which reportedly showed him taking the girl away, reports The New Indian Express.
Following the footage review, police launched a search operation and constituted four teams to trace the child and the accused. The girl’s photograph was also circulated through social media to aid the search.
The efforts led to a breakthrough later on Sunday night when villagers in Danei Brahmapur, located around 10 km from the hospital, noticed the girl after recognising her from the circulated photograph. The villagers reportedly apprehended the accused and alerted the police.
Police personnel reached the village, rescued the girl and took the accused into custody. The child was subsequently reunited with her family.
Police said the accused had previously spent nearly four years in jail in connection with a rape case registered in 2011. The circumstances of the earlier case were cited by police while providing details about his background.
He was produced before a court on Monday in connection with the alleged abduction. The prompt police search, CCTV examination and assistance from local villagers ultimately resulted in the recovery of the child and arrest of the accused.
