Multiple Ayurvedic medicines seized in Telangana
Telangana: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana has seized multiple Ayurvedic medicines across various locations in the state for making misleading advertisements. The raids, conducted in different districts, targeted medicines falsely claiming to treat ailments, in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
In Siricilla, officials seized ‘ORTHO-AID OIL,’ an Ayurvedic medicine, moving in the market with misleading claim on its labels that it treats ‘Rheumatism’. The product, manufactured by Leeford Healthcare Ltd., was detected at a local medical store with misleading labels. Advertisement of a medicine for treatment of ‘Rheumatism’ is prohibited under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. Smt. L.R.D. Bhavani, Drugs Inspector, Siricilla carried out the raid. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
A similar operation in Kukatpally, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, led to the seizure of ‘Pleehamrutha Syrup,’ another Ayurvedic medicine that falsely claimed to cure chronic fevers and typhoid fevers. Manufactured by Ravi Varma Ayur & Herbal Remedies and marketed by Panchaprana Herbal Remedies. The raid, conducted on February 14, was carried out by Smt. M. Sreebindu, Drugs Inspector, Kukatpally.
In Hyderabad’s Khairatabad area, authorities discovered ‘Amla Churnam,’ an Ayurvedic product making misleading claims about treating diseases of the optical system. Manufactured by Rinivaa Ayurveda Pvt. Ltd., the medicine was detected at a medical store. Sri. C. Vivekananda Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Khairatabad, carried out the operation.
Additionally, the DCA seized two more Ayurvedic products, ‘STONE NILL DS Syrup’ and ‘MAHASUDARSHAN KADHA,’ which were detected at Bowrampet, Dundigal-Gandimaisamma, Medchal - Malkajgiri District and Hanumakonda, respectively. ‘STONE NILL DS Syrup,’ manufactured by Ultra Green (Unit-I), falsely claimed to treat kidney stones, renal calculi, and urethral calculi.Meanwhile, ‘MAHASUDARSHAN KADHA,’ produced by Om Pharmaceuticals Ltd., was falsely advertised as a fever remedy. The respective raids were conducted by Smt. M. Hemalatha and Sri. J. Kiran Kumar, Drugs Inspectors in their respective regions.
Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person shall take part in publication of advertisement regarding the diseases/disorders indicated under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
Persons who make misleading advertisements regarding drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders are punishable under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
