New Delhi: The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has issued a stern warning to pharmacy institutions across the country, making strict implementation of the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) a decisive condition for approval and appeal consideration for the academic session 2026-2027, while warning that continued non-compliance may lead to rejection of applications and placement of institutions under the "Not to Make Admissions" category.

The circular, dated May 21, 2026, refers to appeals submitted by institutions against decisions communicated by the Council based on SIF, Inspection Reports, and appeals. PCI stated that despite multiple circulars and reminders regarding proper implementation of AEBAS and regular attendance marking by faculty members as per PCI norms, several institutions failed to ensure effective implementation and compliance.

According to the Council, many institutions completed only partial registration under the AEBAS system. In several cases, institutions registered on the portal but failed to install or map biometric devices. PCI also observed that faculty members were either not properly onboarded into the system or were not marking attendance regularly as mandated under PCI norms and guidelines.

PCI stated that such non-compliance reflects inadequate implementation despite repeated directions and sufficient opportunity provided by the Council. Institutions have now been advised to ensure complete implementation of AEBAS, including device integration, faculty onboarding, and regular attendance marking by all faculty members strictly as per PCI norms.

The Council further warned that failure to comply with AEBAS requirements will lead to non-consideration of appeal applications for the academic session 2026–27. PCI added that institutions will not be able to claim before any court of law that adequate opportunity was not provided or that appeals were not considered, as sufficient reminders and opportunities had already been given.

PCI also stated that continued non-compliance and failure to fulfil prescribed AEBAS requirements may result in rejection of applications or placing institutions under the “Not to Make Admissions” category for the academic session 2026–27.
