Vadodara: In an unfortunate incident, a final-year MBBS student, pursuing his medical education at the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS) Gotri Medical College allegedly has committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan of the hostel room on Wednesday. The medico had been doing Covid duty at the hospital.

The 22-year-old medico, hailing from Mangrol taluka of Junagadh, allegedly mentioned in his suicide note that he was ending his life due to stress. However, his three-page-long suicide note doesn't mention anything about the reason for this immense stress. His friends and family also had no idea about this.

Although the medico was on Covid duty, his duty ended on April 30. Police have registered a case of accidental death at the Gorwa police station of Vadodara city in the matter.

The body of the medico has been sent for autopsy and Police have also collected the samples of viscera for a detailed forensic analysis.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the late medico's room partner had a brief chat with him before the roommate left for rotational Covid duty on Tuesday night. However, his roommate has allegedly informed police that the deceased was neither tense nor in any problem apparently.

After the roommate returned from duty on Wednesday morning and knocked on the door, the late medico didn't answer. The roommate, finding no way to unlock the door, placed his mobile phone camera inside the window to check and the medico was found hanging from the ceiling fan.

While commenting on the matter, R C Kanamia, Gorwa police inspector told the daily, "He ended his life between 1.30 am and 7 am. In his three-page suicide note, Siddharth wrote that he couldn't be a good son and brother. He thanked his parents and even mentioned his friends as well as lecturers. The deceased said that he was lucky to have good friends and teachers who taught him a lot."

"The first few lines of the note said that he was committing suicide due to stress. But there was no mention of the reason behind the stress. We are trying to ascertain why he was so stressed. His friends had no idea of his condition and neither his parents knew anything," added the inspector.

Police Sub-Inspector Dharmendra Rakholiya, who is investigating the case further informed The Indian Express that the medico allegedly also requested the police in the suicide note, not to "harass the roommate with questions", or "waste their precious time in investigating his suicide".

The suicide note further mentioned his wishes of buying a car and motorbike. It also mentioned that the late medico wanted to live his life as a good person.

"The note has not revealed any reason (for the suicide) or indicate if he was stressed about something," the PSI added.

Police have further informed the daily that the medico was regularly performing his Covid duties and had "shown no signs" of depression or trouble to anyone interacting with him.

Mentioning that the medico completed his Covid duty on April 30, R C Kanamia further informed TOI, "His Covid duty was over on April 30 and he was off duty. We are not sure if his suicide was due to any work pressure. His mobile phone is locked but we will go through the call details to get more clues."

TOI adds that the investigators have opined that the medico might have planned to commit suicide as he wrote such a long note.

Medical Dialogues had recently reported a similar incident where a young female dentist allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her room. Police had secured a suicide note stating that no one should be blamed for the extreme step.
