30 doctors of Mayo Medical College submit their resignation over the reduction in salary

Uttar Pradesh: Amidst the coronavirus infection, doctors in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, have submitted their resignation letters to the authorities in protest as the management allegedly slashed 20% of their salaries. On June 18, more than 30 doctors of the private hospital of Mayo Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) simultaneously resigned addressing this issue. Those who submitted their resignation also included senior doctors, assistant professors, and even heads of the departments along with many other professors and doctors.

All of them have collectively expressed anger with the non-payment of wages, the manner in which duty has been imposed, and with the attitude of the management. Doctors alleged that many times they have approached the government despite this, their demands were not taken care of.
In a mass resignation letter written to the Dean of the Mayo Institute of Medical Science, Barabanki, and signed by 30 doctors, lists three reasons as the cause behind their decision of mass resignation,
"1) Irrational salary deduction during our duty in COVID times,
2) Other deductions under various heads
3) Repeated misbehavior and the unacceptable attitude of the management despite unconditional support to the institution".
According to the doctors, they tried to have a conversation with the hospital management authority regarding the matter; however, the management did not show any interest in resolving the issue which prompted them to officially submit their resignations. The Mayo medical college has a 750-bed hospital attached where 200 doctors are working in various facilities, but the sudden resignation of 30 doctors, in this COVID-19 scenario, has caused hazard for the hospital to provide proper health services.
Doctors told FPJ "In May-end, the management asked us to go on force leave for six days so that our salaries for those days can be slashed. This month also we were being pressured to go on leave so that the management can save money by deducing the salary 'officially'."
Dr. Neeraj Mishra, former head of doctors and resident doctors association tweeted regarding the matter stating during COVID times, salary deduction of health workers even after various court orders and insulting the senior faculties by the management for demanding their rights is not at all acceptable. He also added "we do have some basic professional and ethical rights we resign en mass today."
