Grenade blast at Gurdaspur Hospital; police arrest prime accused

Arrested
Gurdaspur- In a shocking incident, a grenade attack took place at a private hospital in Gurdaspur on Tuesday, damaging the windowpanes and glass doors of the hospital's emergency ward.
Police have arrested the prime accused in the attack, who is suspected of having links to a handler based abroad.
However, the investigation is ongoing, and extensive scrutiny of both forward and backward linkages is being conducted to identify and dismantle the entire network behind the attack.
The accused has been identified as a resident of Tarn Taran and was previously booked in cases registered under the NDPS Act.
The incident came to light when, around 2:40 PM, the Kalanaur Police Station received a report of a loud noise at Multani Hospital, near the bus stand.
Speaking to the Indian Express, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said, “Gurdaspur police and the Counter Intelligence Wing jointly solved the grenade attack case at Kalanaur, Gurdaspur, within six hours of the incident. Acting swiftly on technical and human intelligence inputs, the main perpetrator responsible for the attack has been apprehended. Preliminary probe reveals the involvement of a foreign-based handler”.
Meanwhile, Gurdaspur SSP Aditya said investigators are interrogating the accused, and a technical investigation is being conducted to find out why the attack was carried out, whether it was to spread fear or to extort money. The SSP further informed that CCTV footage shows a suspicious individual standing near the hospital.
The doctor who runs the hospital informed the police that he had been receiving extortion calls for the past year and had even been provided with security. However, the police had acted upon those phone calls and taken appropriate measures.
Furthermore, Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa termed the "blast" extremely concerning and demanded an investigation.
