Setback: Following Resignation of Three Cardiologists, RIMS Adilabad to Commence Services Later
Adilabad: In a major setback, the commencement of Adilabad-based Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) got deferred as three cardiologists associated with the facility submitted their resignation and an urologist contracted COVID-19 infection.
The cardiologists, who were appointed three months ago during a recruitment drive, left the facility after getting better opportunities and higher pay in Hyderabad, adds Hans India.
The plans of upgrading the institute into a super specialty hospital have been in force for several years. Medical Dialogues had reported back in 2016 that the Health Minister of the State had approved special funds to RIMS for this purpose.
Built at a cost of Rs 150 crore, the 220-bed RIMs hospital is meant to provide super specialty medical facilities free of cost to those who cannot afford it. For this purpose, the Central Government gave Rs 120 crore while the State had contributed Rs 30 crore.

As per the latest media report by Deccan Chronicle, the Director of the Institute had earlier stated that the super-specialty services in the cardiac, neurology, paediatrics and urology departments would be initiated on Monday.
However, three cardiologists left the facilities after getting better employment opportunities in Hyderabad, adds Hans India. Mentioning that the cardiology wing is the heart of the hospital, the RIMS Director has further informed the daily that a new notification would be issued soon for filling up the vacancies in the department.
He also added that specialists in nephrology and neurology departments will also be appointed in the following weeks and the services would commence at the earliest.
The hospital is set to have 42 ICU beds along with five emergency wards. Further, there will be exclusive operation theatres in disciplines like Cardiology, Nephrology and Urology, RIMS Director Jai Singh Rathod informed the daily.
