Tata Memorial Centre to get Rs 380 crore NSE funding for cancer facility

Mumbai to Get Nation’s Biggest Bone Marrow Transplant Centre by 2027
Mumbai: The Tata Memorial Centre’s Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) in Kharghar is set to host the country’s largest bone marrow transplant (BMT) facility. The 60-bed centre will be constructed with Rs 380 crore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contribution from the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
The upcoming 11-storey facility, to be named the NSE Multispecialty Hospital Block & Bone Marrow Transplant Cancer Hospital, will be constructed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T). A bhoomipujan ceremony was held on Sunday to mark the beginning of the project. Once construction is completed, the building will be officially handed over to ACTREC.

ACTREC currently performs over 100 bone marrow transplants each year and treats more than 300 patients daily. It also pioneered indigenous CAR-T cell therapy for blood cancer in India in 2021.
Dr. Chaturvedi noted that the bone marrow transplants performed at the new facility would be the most affordable in the country. While BMTs can cost over Rs 40 lakh at some private hospitals and more than Rs 10 lakh even in public institutions, the Tata Memorial Centre supports families by helping them raise funds through donations.
The bhoomipujan ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Ashishkumar Chauhan, MD and CEO of NSE; Dr. Sudeep Gupta, Director, Tata Memorial Centre; Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi, Director, ACTREC; and Dr. Navin Khattry, Deputy Director, ACTREC and Head of the BMT program.
