Viral video allegedly shows patient's mother cleaning floor at MP Hospital, show cause notices issued

Damoh: A viral video purportedly showing the mother of a patient cleaning the floor of Damoh District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh has sparked concerns over the responsibility of hospital staff for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.
According to the news reports, the woman was allegedly made to clean the floor after her ailing son soiled himself. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and the claims associated with the video have not been independently verified.
Responding to the video, the hospital management said it was not recent and had been recorded around one and a half to two months ago. The hospital manager also issued a statement regarding the matter. The clarification addressed the age of the footage, but the circumstances surrounding the incident and the reasons the woman was allegedly asked to clean the area remain unclear from the information available, reports India Today.
The incident has also drawn a political reaction, with the Madhya Pradesh Congress criticising the state government in a post on X. They questioned the accountability of hospital staff and the state health administration over the incident.
“The Mohan government has completely abandoned sensitivity! This government and its administration have turned oppressive and tyrannical! An elderly woman who came to the district hospital in Damoh to get treatment for her son was made to clean the floor! State Health Minister Rajendra Shukla says his officers don't listen to him, but surely the employees do? Such oppression of the public shouldn't happen—at the very least, ensure that much!” the party said in its post.
Speaking to The Tribune, Civil Surgeon Dr Prahlad Patel said action would be taken in the matter. The hospital administration has issued show-cause notices to the nursing officer concerned, the cleaning agency and the assistant hospital administrator. Meanwhile, the woman’s son reportedly showed improvement after receiving treatment and was discharged from the hospital. An investigation into the incident is underway.
