NPPA Fixes Retail Prices of 20 New Drug Formulations Under DPCO 2013

New Delhi: In a fresh drug pricing move, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, has fixed the retail prices of 11 drug formulations, covering medicines used in the management of diabetes, hypertension, and pain.

The prices have been notified through S.O. 4774(E), dated August 27, 2026, in exercise of powers conferred under paragraphs 5, 11 and 15 of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO), 2013. The retail prices specified by the pricing regulator are exclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST), if any

The formulations brought under retail price fixation include medicines used for the management of diabetes, hypertension, pain and muscle spasm, psychiatric conditions and HIV infection, among other therapeutic indications.

The formulations include Drotaverine Hydrochloride 80 mg and Mefenamic Acid 250 mg Tablets at Rs 14.59 per tablet by Innova Captab Ltd./Zorvia Healthcare Ltd.; Empagliflozin 10 mg, Linagliptin 5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg Extended-Release Tablets at Rs 12.27 per tablet and Empagliflozin 25 mg, Linagliptin 5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg Extended-Release Tablets at Rs 14.33 per tablet, both by Exemed Pharmaceuticals/Macleods Pharmaceuticals Ltd.; and Escitalopram 10 mg and Clonazepam 0.5 mg Mouth Dissolving Tablets at Rs 15.69 per tablet by Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd./Mankind Pharma Ltd.

Further, NPPA has fixed the retail price of Glimepiride 3 mg Tablets at Rs 12.48 per tablet and Glimepiride 4 mg Tablets at Rs 13.47 per tablet, both manufactured by Unison Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd.; Telmisartan 40 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg Tablets at Rs 13.08 per tablet and Telmisartan 40 mg and Chlorthalidone 12.5 mg Tablets at Rs 13.27 per tablet, both by Pure and Cure Healthcare Pvt. Ltd./Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.

The price regulator has also fixed the retail price of Thiocolchicoside 4 mg, Aceclofenac 100 mg and Paracetamol 325 mg Tablets at Rs 19.74 per tablet by Ravenbhel Healthcare Pvt. Ltd./Seagull Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd.; Voglibose 0.3 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg Sustained-Release Tablets at Rs 13.55 per tablet by Pure and Cure Healthcare Pvt. Ltd./Alkem Wellness Ltd.; and Dolutegravir 50 mg, Lamivudine 300 mg and Tenofovir Alafenamide 25 mg Tablets at Rs 120.07 per tablet by Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

The notification stated,

In exercise of the powers conferred by paragraphs 5, 11 and 15 of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013, read with S.O. 1394(E) dated the 30th May, 2013, S.O. 5249(E) dated 11th November, 2022 and S.O. 3516(E) dated 30th June, 2026 issued by the Government of India in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (hereinafter referred as NPPA) has fixed, the price as specified in column (6) of the table herein below as the retail price, exclusive of Goods and Services Tax, if any, in relation to the formulation specified in the corresponding entry in column (2) of the said Table with the strength, unit and name of manufacturer & marketing company, as specified in the corresponding entries in columns (3), (4) and (5) thereof;

Further, the notice added,

(a) The manufacturer, as mentioned in column (5) of the table above, of formulations i.e., “new drug” under paragraph 2(1)(u) of the DPCO, 2013 shall fix the retail price not exceeding the price as specified in column (6) of the table above.

(b) Any other existing manufacturer launching the same new drug as specified in column (2), (3) and (4) of table above within twelve months of the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette is permitted to do so at a retail price not exceeding the price as specified in column (6) of the table above subject to filing of Form-IA on IPDMS 2.0 along with supporting documents within one month of launch.

(c) The manufacturer may add Goods and Services Tax only if they have paid actually or it is payable to the Government on the retail price mentioned in column (6) of the above said table.

(d) The retail price for a pack of the aforesaid formulation shall be arrived at by the concerned manufacturer in accordance with the retail price specified in column (6) of the above table as per provisions contained in paragraph 11 of the DPCO, 2013. The manufacturer shall issue a price list in Form–V from date of notification as per paragraph 24 of the DPCO, 2013 to NPPA through IPDMS and submit a copy to State Drug Controller and dealers.

(e) As per para 24(4) of DPCO 2013, every retailer and dealer shall display price list and the supplementary price list, if any, as furnished by the manufacturer, on a conspicuous part of the premises where he carries on business in a manner so as to be easily accessible to any person wishing to consult the same.

(f) In case the retail price of any of the aforesaid formulations is not complied with, as per instant price notification and notes specified hereinabove, then the concerned manufacturer/marketing company shall be liable to deposit the overcharged amount along with the interest thereon under the provisions of the DPCO, 2013 read with the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
