Doctor from Government General Hospital, Kurnool bags international recognition
Kurnool: The head of the cardiology unit of the Kurnool Government General Hospital (GGH), Dr. P Chandra Sekhar has been awarded by the London-based World Book of Records for his two-decade-long glorious service to the hospital. He is the first doctor from South India to get this international honour.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar received a Certificate of Commitment from the agency at the hospital conference hall on Monday. The certificate was handed over to the cardiologist by district judge Radhakrishna Krupasagar. Dr. Chandra Sekhar was previously the hospital's superintendent and the principal of the Kurnool Medical College (KMC). Dr. Nagendranath Reddy, the superintendent of Kurnool GGH, and the former KMC principal Dr. Bhavani Prasad, as well as other prominent doctors from the hospital.
In 1987, Dr. Sekhar started his career as the Medical Officer, Primary Health Centre, S.R. Puram Village, Chittoor District. Promoted in 1988 as Asst. Prof. of Medicine and joined in S.V. Medical College, Tirupati. In 1993 he acquired the Post-Doctoral D.M.(Cardiology) Degree in Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu. He was promoted as Associate Professor and also Professor in S.V. Medical College, Tirupati. In 1997, he was transferred from Tirupati and joined as Professor in Cardiology, Kurnool Medical College/Govt. General Hospital, Kurnool.
During his student days, as NCC, he learned maintenance of discipline and through NSS he learned to extend the ideas of voluntary services with the same attitude continuing in the profession, he has been receiving great appreciation from the patients in treating them. In 2015, he became the Deputy Superintendent of Govt. General Hospital, Kurnool. His acquired Fellowships included F.I.A.1.(Fellow of Indian Academi of Endocardiogram) in 2003 and F.C.S.I. (Fellow of Cardiological Society of India) in 2005. Received Fellowship of F.A.C.C. (Fellow of American College of Cardiology) from Chicago in 2015.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar told The New Indian Express that his responsibility towards society has increased tenfolds now that he achieved international recognition, and he will continue to serve the patents in his best capacity.
