Rs 12k stipend unpaid for 6 months: 50 SNM medical college paramedical students demand release of bond service dues
Dhanbad: Paramedical students of Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad, who are serving under the state's bond policy, have alleged that their stipend remains unpaid for nearly six months.
To raise concerns over the delay, the students recently met the Deputy Medical Superintendent of Dhanbad Sadar Hospital, Dr Sanjeev Kumar, on Tuesday and sought release of their stipends at the earliest.
In Jharkhand, government paramedical students are required to provide one year of compulsory bond service after completing their course.
Therefore, around 50 concerned paramedical students, belonging to the 2023-25 batch, started working at SNMMCH in March this year under the bond service. They stated that they were deployed as technicians in different departments of the medical college and hospital.

However, despite completing nearly six months of service, the students said that none of them received the monthly stipend payable under the scheme.
To raise their concerns, the students met Dr Sanjeev Kumar and apprised him of their situation. They urged the health department to release the pending stipends at the earliest.
Commenting on this, a student told TOI, "We are supposed to receive a monthly stipend of Rs 12,000, but not a single payment has been made since we joined in March."
The students said the prolonged delay had caused financial difficulties and appealed to the authorities to intervene and ensure regular payment of their stipulated stipend.
Medical Dialogues had reported in August that the National Medical Commission (NMC) denied permission to Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad, to increase its MBBS intake from 100 to 150 seats for the 2026-27 academic year due to a shortage of teaching faculty. The Commission did not approve the government's request for 150 MBBS seats, since around 42% of the sanctioned posts of professors, associate professors and assistant professors were vacant.
