3rd-year MBBS student of GMC Kozhikode becomes First Medico to bag Miss Kerala Title
Kozhikode: For the first time, an MBBS student has been crowned to be Miss Kerala. This year's Miss Kerala is a 3rd-year MBBS student of Kozhikode Government Medical College (Kozhikode GMC) Erin Liz John, who has now become the first medico to bag the title of Miss Kerala.
The results of the beauty pageant had been announced on January 31, 2021, at a virtual ceremony, conducted online.
The 20-year-old medico has bagged the title among 200 talented Malayali contestants who participated in it from different parts of the world. After bagging the crown, Erin has gone back to her institution to celebrate with her friends and faculty at the college. The campus distributed sweets and put up congratulatory posters to celebrate the achievement by the medico.
Erin hails from Ernakulam and had been born to parents, who are doctors by profession. As the jobs of her parents required travelling through the country, Erin pursued her education and schooling from mainly outside of Kerala. She pursued her High School Education from Kochi Navy School and plus II from Kanjirapally St Anthony's School. Finally, she joined her MBBS course in Kozhikode MCH.
While commenting about her passion for acting and modelling, Erin told the New Indian Express, "Fashion, modelling and acting have always been my favourite things since childhood. Despite being a doctor, my mother always supported me to pursue my dream and the decision to join MBBS was completely my own. I always wanted to be a responsible doctor first and also strive to achieve my dreams in modelling and also acting."
Styled by a West-Bengal-based dancer Arunima Gupta, Erin grabbed the crown because of her outstanding performances in all the rounds. While commenting on the rounds of the beauty pageant, Erin told NIE, "50 contestants were selected for the final round from a two-stage audition. There were four rounds in the final. Indian ethnic round, Atmana, that evaluates the power and beauty of the mind, Basque which emphasizes the cocktail evening look and Keraliyam based on Kerala tradition." Erin had one Santosh from Kochi to get help with her makeup, adds the daily.
Talking about the beauty pageant, which had been conducted in an online mode because of the pandemic, Erin told NIE, "Since the competition was online, most people did not know about my participation. Friends were amazed when they saw the results from the news."
A report by Mathrubhumi adds that actors Sijoy Varghese, Rajeev Pillai, Sija Rose and international groomer Nuthan Manohar had been the members in the Jury. They were the one who selected the winners from the 11 finalists.
