Dhargal: Strengthening ophthalmic care services and academic infrastructure, the Department of Shalakyatantra at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, has inaugurated an Advanced Ophthalmic Diagnostic Unit equipped with modern diagnostic technology to enhance patient care, clinical training and academic activities.
The newly established facility was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam, Dean, AIIA Goa, in the presence of senior faculty members, administrators and clinicians. The initiative marks a significant addition to the institute's ophthalmology services by expanding diagnostic capabilities while supporting teaching and research.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Mohan Joshi, Associate Dean (UG & PhD), Prof. Dr. Vittal Huddar, MS & PG Dean, Dr. Praveen B.S., AMS, Dr. Vinayak Chakor, DMS, and Dr. Prasanna Paruleker, Empanelled Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon. Faculty members and clinicians from the institute also participated in the event.

According to the post shared by the institute on X and Instagram, the programme was coordinated by Dr. Pravin M. Bhat, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Shalakyatantra, along with Dr. Neethu Kesavan, Assistant Professor, and the department's staff.
The institute said the Advanced Ophthalmic Diagnostic Unit has been equipped with several specialised diagnostic systems to support comprehensive eye evaluation. These include a Visual Field Analyzer for assessing visual field defects, an IOL Master 700 for ocular biometry, a Non-Contact Tonometer for measuring intraocular pressure, and an A-Scan machine used in ophthalmic diagnosis.
The addition of these advanced diagnostic tools is expected to improve the accuracy and precision of ophthalmic evaluation, enabling timely assessment and management of patients attending the department.
Besides strengthening patient care, the facility is also expected to serve as an important resource for undergraduate and postgraduate clinical training by providing students and clinicians access to modern ophthalmic diagnostic technologies.
AIIA Goa stated that the unit represents another step towards integrating advanced diagnostic technology with the principles of Ayurvedic healthcare. With the introduction of the new facility, the Department of Shalakyatantra aims to enhance diagnostic services while supporting clinical education and academic excellence within the institute.
