Hamirpur: The work for the construction of Dr, Radhakrishnan Medical College, Hamirpur at Jolsapper village of the district is going on at a fast pacé as it is the dream project of the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhoo.

Jolsappar is located on Hamirpur-Pathankot national highway about fourteen kilometers from Hamirpur town.

After taking charge of the state, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu not only gave special instructions to get the construction work of the new academic complex and hospital at village Jol Sappar for Dr. Radhakrishna Medical College, Hamirpur, running in the old regional hospital, on a war footing.

He has released a sum of forty crore rupees as state share for the project. With this step of the Chief Minister, hopes of getting a new campus and hospital for the Medical College Hamirpur have been boosted.

As the MLA of Nadaun, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was striving for many years for the construction of a medical college and a state-of-the-art hospital in district Hamirpur. For this, he also used his personal contacts at the Center and when Hamirpur got the medical college sanctioned, he also contributed in making available enough land in the village of Jol Sappar in his assembly constituency.

Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was continuously active in removing all the obstacles coming in the transfer of land for the medical college.

Sukhu, after taking over as the Chief Minister of the state on December 11, 2022, is regularly taking reports of ongoing construction works in the new campus of Medical College Hamirpur.

The Chief Minister had also directed Barsar MLA Inder Dutt Lakhanpal to inspect the medical college in the past to review the construction works. This is the reason that the construction works of various buildings in the new campus have gained momentum in recent times.

Dr. Suman Yadav, Principal of the Medical College said due to the release of Rs 40 crore by the state government, the pace of construction works in Jol Sappar has accelerated. He informed that a target has been set to prepare the academic block by the end of March and the hospital block by June.

She said the construction of a head bridge and trauma center etc. were also being included in the new complex, due to which the cost of this project is estimated to reach Rs 384 crore.

The Principal informed that as per the instructions of the Chief Minister, transfer of additional land and other formalities are also being completed for the construction of other blocks of the college such as Mother-Child Hospital Block, Super Specialty Block, Medical Wing and Residential Block etc.

Dr. Suman Yadav said the college administration is reviewing the construction works every week.
