Ranchi: The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, has cancelled the admission of a first-year MBBS student after an official investigation found that he had allegedly secured his seat by submitting a fake Scheduled Tribe (ST) caste certificate.

The student is from the 2025 MBBS batch, and the action was taken after the district administration submitted its inquiry report confirming that the caste certificate used during the admission process was forged.

The incident took place after the institute sought verification of the student's documents from the Deputy Commissioner of Sahibganj after receiving a complaint regarding the authenticity of his admission records.

During the inquiry, the district administration reportedly found that the ST certificate submitted by the student was not genuine. Based on the findings, RIMS cancelled his admission with immediate effect, as reported by Dainik Bhaskar. The institute said it follows a strict policy against any irregularities in the admission process and will not tolerate the use of forged or fake documents to obtain admission.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a fourth-year medical student was expelled from Bankura Sammilani Medical College, West bengal for taking admission with a fake ST certificate. After the matter came to light, the college administration immediately lodged a complaint with the police.

The matter came to light when the administration got suspicious about the student's surname and caste certificate. Hence, the certificate was sent to the sub-divisional officer of Jalpaiguri district for verification, as the certificate was issued from Jalpaiguri district. After this, the certificate was also sent to the Backward Classes Welfare Department for verification. Both departments confirmed that the student's certificate was fake.

Following this, tribal groups staged a protest and demanded her immediate expulsion. They surrounded the college and staged a protest. Following this, the state health department directed the college to expel her.
