Kalaburagi: In a recent incident of violence against healthcare professionals, a doctor and his mother-in-law were assaulted in Akkamahadevi Colony near the High Court in the city when they demanded repayment of a loan from the accused.

According to the latest media report by TOI, the doctor identified as Anil Kumar Joy had lent Rs 50,000 to the accused in 2024. The accused had promised the doctor that he would return the money within a week. However, despite multiple reminders, the accused allegedly failed to repay the amount.

On March 12, the situation turned ugly when the accused reportedly visited the doctor's house with his associate at around 12:30 pm and called him downstairs under the pretext of returning the money. But instead of doing so, the two allegedly assaulted the doctor.

When his mother-in-law attempted to intervene in the altercation, the duo reportedly assaulted her, leaving her with injuries. Later, she was admitted to the district government hospital.

Following the attack, the doctor filed a complaint at the Ashokanagar police station, and a case has been registered against the accused under relevant BNS sections, reports TOI.

Apart from being assaulted, the complainant alleged that the accused also stole their gold chain, weighing 20 grams, during the altercation.
