Gurugram- To reduce queues at the Out-Patient Department (OPD) and reduce patient waiting time, the District Health Department is planning to introduce a centralised token system at the Civil Hospital in Sector 10A, officials said on Thursday.

As part of this initiative, several tenders were submitted for the implementation of a token system, as well as for the installation of 26 LED touch-display panels to provide token-related information and announcements, officials stated.

According to the tender documents available on the Haryana government's website, bids will be accepted until May 27, following which a technical evaluation will be conducted. This tender, issued by the PWD on Wednesday, includes the installation of live token display units outside the hospital's 20 OPDs, as well as a "keypad caller" system, digital signage media players, and centralised token-management software to display OPD queue status and public information in real-time.

Speaking to HT on the condition of anonymity, a senior official from the Public Works Department (PWD) stated that the hospital's existing token system would be upgraded through large touch panels. These panels will also record patients' offline and reporting history to facilitate easy navigation and reduce waiting times outside the OPD.

Officials further stated that the new token system is likely to be implemented within seven months. This is expected to improve coordination among various OPDs and patient care booths. Currently, patients face significant difficulties in receiving timely treatment due to being referred multiple times for every examination and procedure.

Dr Neena Singh, the hospital's Senior Medical Officer and In-charge, stated that seating arrangements have been made outside the OPD to reduce overcrowding, while spacing is being maintained between patient examination booths to facilitate smoother movement.

“Encroachments outside the hospital premises were cleared for safer and faster access for patients. Two additional kiosks for pharmacy services and dairy products are also expected to become operational in the coming weeks,” Dr Singh said.
