Dr Vagish Barnwal brings laurels to Motilal Nehru Medical College with Best Case Award

Prayagraj: In a proud moment for Motilal Nehru Medical College (MNMC), Prayagraj, Dr. Vagish Barnwal, a third-year DM Gastroenterology medico, has won the Best Case Award at the prestigious seventh DRILLS 2026 (Decisions, Reasoning, Innovations & Learning in Liver Diseases) conference held in New Delhi.
According to the news reports, the conference was organised by the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) on June 13 and 14 and brought together nearly 1,500 delegates, including leading experts, researchers, and clinicians from India and abroad. Around 400 complex and challenging liver disease cases were presented during the two-day event.
Among the numerous presentations, Dr. Barnwal’s case was selected as the best by the expert panel, earning him the conference's top honour. The achievement highlights his clinical acumen, academic excellence, and dedication to advancing knowledge in the field of gastroenterology. Currently pursuing his DM in Gastroenterology at Moti Lal Nehru Medical College (December 2023–December 2026), Dr. Barnwal has developed expertise in advanced gastrointestinal procedures, including upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, cholangioscopy, electrohydraulic lithotripsy (EHL), and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).
Before joining MNMC, he completed his MD in General Medicine from Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra (2020–2023). He earned his MBBS degree from King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow (2014–2019). In recognition of his guidance and mentorship, Dr. S.P. Mishra, Head of the Department and a renowned hepatologist, was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation during the event.
Dr. Mishra applauded Dr. Vagish Barnwal for bringing laurels to the institution by winning the award. He noted that securing the top honour among nearly 400 case presentations in the presence of 1,500 delegates reflects the high academic standards, clinical competence, and commitment of the college’s students, reports TOI.
Sanchari Chattopadhyay has pursued her M.A in English and Culture Studies from the University of Burdwan, West Bengal. She likes observing cultural specificities and exploring new places.
