Assam: Fake doctor booked again for allegedly continuing unauthorised medical practice
Guwahati- A fake doctor, arrested in 2023 and later granted bail by the Gauhati High Court in a case involving illegal medical practice and impersonation of a qualified medical professional, has once again been booked after authorities alleged that he continued such activities.
The police have initiated an investigation, and investigators are expected to examine medical records, prescriptions, promotional materials, and other documents related to his practice.
The case was registered by the Anti-Quackery and Vigilance Officer of the Assam Council of Medical Registration (ACMR), under the Government of Assam. The complainant alleges that the accused was running a clinic and treating patients without possessing any recognised medical qualification or valid registration.
The complainant has also alleged that the accused continues to engage in the same activities that violated the conditions of his release. Notably, the accused had previously been arrested in 2023 on similar charges of impersonating a doctor and illegally practising medicine.
According to the complaint, the accused was neither registered with the 'Assam Council of Medical Registration' nor authorised by the NMC to practice allopathic medicine.
Therefore, this posed a serious threat to people's health and safety, as unsuspecting patients could be misled about his qualifications and professional standing, said authorities.
Meanwhile, the ACMR claimed that despite repeated warnings and legal action, the accused allegedly continued to examine and treat patients, prescribe medicines, and represent himself as a qualified medical practitioner.
