Maha: Medical Officer found dead inside her car

Nashik: The burnt body of a woman doctor working with the Nashik Municipal Hospital was found inside her car in Nashik Rural late on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as a 38-year-old medical officer. Her charred body was found inside her inside her private vehicle that was also gutted near Khed Bhairav village in Nashik Rural.

A case of accidental death has been registered by the Wadivarhe police while the post-mortem report is awaited.

Elaborating on the incident, Inspector Anil Pawar told The Indian Express, "At around 11 pm on Tuesday, we received information that a burnt vehicle was found near Khed Bhairav village. We went to the spot and found that a person was also trapped inside the car."

Police checked the chassis number of the Maruti Ritz car as the registration number of the vehicle also got burnt.

"We got the registration number from the Regional Transport Office using the chassis number, after which we reached the (owner's) house in Igatpuri and came to know that they had shifted to Ambad in Nashik city. A missing report was by then lodged by her husband Sandeep at Ambad police station," the inspector added.

The deceased husband, Sandeep, is a civil engineer and works as a contractor.

Police took him to the spot where he identified the body and told the police that the medical officer usually reached home by 9 pm. But on Tuesday evening she called him, however, he was busy and he disconnected the call. Later, Sandeep got a message from her saying she would be late.

When the medical officer did not reach home by 11 pm, Sandeep contacted her parents and the hospital authorities, as her phone was turned off. Upon learning that she had left the hospital by 8.30 pm, he approached the Ambad police.

Pawar told that the Ambad police were looking for her and that they also visited their home. In addition to collecting samples, a forensic team conducted a post-mortem at the scene.

The couple has a son and a daughter.

"We have so far registered the matter as ADR (accidental death report). Once we get the post-mortem report or if the forensic team indicates that she may have been killed… we will register a case of murder," the inspector informed the daily.
