'Unauthorized' nursing home sealed after pregnant woman death, probe ordered
Etah: An 'unauthorized' nursing home operating in a residential area has been sealed, while a probe has been ordered after a pregnant woman died during treatment due to alleged negligence at the facility in Kailashganj locality in the Etah district of Uttar Pradesh.
A complaint was moved by the 24-year old patient's husband, following which, the police registered an FIR under IPC section 304A (causing death by negligence). The family of the deceased alleged that the patient did not receive proper treatment at the district women's hospital where she was brought initially on Monday evening.

The woman's husband, Sachin Gupta alleged, "My wife Puja Gupta was pregnant and had labour pain on Monday. We took her to the district women's hospital. No doctor came to see her."
After being unable to get treatment at the district hospital, they took her to a private hospital. He added, "We later took her to a nearby private hospital. Here, my wife delivered a baby girl. Staffers handed us the baby but didn't allow us to meet the mother. We were told that she was critical and required emergency surgery. She died on Tuesday. The newborn baby is also serious. We've admitted her to another hospital."
According to a recent media report in Times of India , the unauthorized private health center was issued a notice by the health department last year. However, no follow-up actions were reportedly taken.
Commenting on the issue, the Chief Medical Officer of Etah Umesh Tripathi stated, "A probe has been ordered. The private nursing home was operating in a residential area. Primary investigation revealed that the nursing home was not registered with the health department. It has been sealed."
The SHO of Kotwali Nagar, DN Mishra said that the body has been sent for postmortem and no doctors or paramedics were present at the center.
He added, "An FIR has been registered against Anu Upadhyaya who was running the center under IPC section 304A (causing death by negligence). The accused is still at large."
Recently, the state government had issued an order asking the health department to take necessary strict actions against such medical centers.
